The Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO) is a major scientific organization representing and promoting proteomics and metabolomics worldwide – here you can see how broadly these disciplines are being adopted around the globe.
The Human Metabolome Project (HMP) represents a more focused effort to characterise all the metabolites present in our bodies above a certain concentration (i.e. one micromolar, which is pretty dilute). Here you can see that such large-scale research efforts do not come cheap.
